Did you know that 68% of online experiences begin with a search engine? And over 63% of all US web traffic referrals come from Google. Here's how you can start to ensure those searches start to lead to your website:
The question: how do you drive more traffic to your website?
The answer: Create a (free or paid) resource.
To drive traffic to your site, offering a resource—whether it's free or paid—is one of the most effective strategies.
But here's the catch: that resource needs to be valuable. And we're talking like realllyyy valuable.
It should solve a real problem for your audience or provide them with a benefit so compelling that they’re willing to exchange their time, information, or even money for it—it has to be something that is truly worth downloading.
Maybe it’s a comprehensive guide, a template, or a helpful checklist. For instance, you could create a meal-planning template, a beginner's fitness guide, or a budgeting spreadsheet. Whatever you choose, tailor it to your audience's needs and ensure that it's something your ideal customer would find indispensable. This kind of resource builds trust and positions you as an expert, which will ultimately encourage visitors to explore more of your offerings (and even share it with others).
BUT maybe you’ve already created a resource, and now you’re asking, “okay, so, now what?” or "how do I get the word out to drive more people to my website to actually download it?"
Well let's talk about a few ways you can do so.
01 / Turn up posting frequency
We know you don't want to hear it but, increasing your posting frequency = more chances to get seen.
Increasing your posting frequency -- no matter if it's for Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, etc., -- will act as a lead generation system in itself. Remember the "rule of 7 principle," which suggests that a message needs to be seen at least seven times, in seven different ways, for it to be received and inspire action. So, the more you post, the more chances you have to reach people and have the message resonate.
Marketing thrives on repetition. To make your message stick, you will need to repeat it often (until you're even tired of hearing it!).
Keep in mind that whatever you create doesn’t have to be complicated. Take a look at this video or this post that we recently shared – it's a simple script that gives the viewer a bit of information and ends with a simple call-to-action (CTA) that directs the viewer to download our free resource if they’re interested in learning more about the subject.
The key is clarity and repetition.
02/ expand your reach
If possible, don’t limit yourself to just one or two platforms.
And here's why...
in 2024:
businesses that implemented omnichannel strategies retained 89% of their customers, compared to just 33% for those that don't
omnichannel shoppers are 1.7x more likely to make repeat purchases
46% of consumers who shop across multiple channels are more likely to recommend brands to others
The point is that, omnichannel marketing is crucial for boosting exposure in the online world, so think beyond Facebook and Instagram. Try Pinterest, TikTok, Twitter (X), Threads, or LinkedIn for broader visibility.
And keep in mind that different platforms offer different strengths: for example, TikTok and Pinterest are great for discovering new audiences, while Facebook and Instagram are better for nurturing your current audience. Each platform plays a unique role in your strategy, so leverage them based on your goals.
bonus tip: One real way to expand your reach and FAST is by not being afraid to be a bit unconventional and creative.
For example, take inspiration from brands like DuoLingo and Nutter Butter. Both companies have been leaning into being extremely unconventional and guess what? It’s working.
Not only do their videos go extremely viral but they also rely on garnering even more attention when other creators take notice and create their own videos talking about the brand and their unconventional marketing tactics, which ultimately keeps the conversation going and gives them more exposure—which is exactly what they intended.
Now we're not saying you should go to the extreme like DuoLingo or Nutter Butter, but the point is - don’t be afraid to take some risks in your marketing!
03/ start blogging
If you’re not already blogging, consider this your sign to start. Blogging is an incredibly effective way to drive more traffic to your website - this blog brought you here to ours, didn't it?
Blogging is valuable because it positions you as an expert, boosts your SEO, and gives your audience valuable content to engage with. When you write blogs, you’re creating an opportunity for your site to show up in more search results.
And the best part? Blogging works hand-in-hand with SEO. By including keywords your audience is searching for you can increase your chances of being found online.
Another perk of blogging: you can use your blog posts to direct visitors to your resources, just like we do in this post (wait until the end). Whether it’s a link to a free download or a paid product, blogs are a natural way to guide readers toward taking action. If you know that someone can gain more value by downloading your resource or purchasing a product/service, then there is no harm in weaving in a compelling call-to-action (CTA) within your post so you can seamlessly drive traffic to your resources while also delivering helpful content.
And if you're not sure what to write about - tools like AnswerThePublic.com and Google Trends are super useful. They help you discover what people are searching for and give you insights into trending topics or frequently asked questions in your industry. This means you can create content that directly addresses what your audience wants to know.
But it’s not just about SEO, blogging also builds trust. When you share helpful tips, advice, or insights, your audience begins to see you as the go-to person in your industry. Plus, blogs give you endless content ideas to repurpose for social media or email marketing, making your life a lot easier and your marketing strategy more cohesive.
So, whether it’s a “how-to” guide, a list of tips, or a post about the latest trends in your industry, we encourage you to start blogging! The key is to focus on topics your ideal audience cares about—because when your content is valuable, people will keep coming back for more.
04/ find collab opportunities
Collaboration is a powerful way to tap into new audiences. Guest blogging, podcast appearances, or co-hosting webinars are all fantastic ways to reach people who wouldn’t otherwise find your content/website.
Partner with influencers, other businesses, or even industry peers that align with your goals to do things like create content together, host a Masterclass or webinar, host an event IRL or in-person. The point is that, sharing audiences benefits everyone involved, and linking back to each other's websites can generate mutual traffic (plus backlinks are really great for SEO so it's a true win-win).
Don’t forget to cross-promote this content on social media and in your email marketing/newsletters for even more reach.
05/ set up a Google Business Profile
Not only is setting up a Google Business Profile simple and free, but it offers several benefits that can help your resource gain traction:
improved local visibility: when people search for businesses like yours, a Google Business Profile helps you show up in local searches and on Google Maps, making it easier for potential customers in your area to find you (and your resources!)
enhanced credibility: a verified Google Business Profile adds legitimacy to your business. Reviews, photos, and accurate business details build trust and give people confidence that your resource is worth downloading and that you’re worth working with
easy access to information: your profile allows you to display key information like hours, contact details, and website links, ensuring potential clients can easily find your website and download your resource
customer reviews & feedback: interact with customers through reviews, address feedback, and showcase positive experiences, which helps build trust and a strong reputation for your brand
BONUS / common mistakes to avoid
Driving traffic to your website isn’t just about what you do—it’s also about avoiding what not to do.
For instance, neglecting consistency in your content can confuse your audience and erode trust; remember, your messaging needs to be clear and cohesive across all platforms.
Another common pitfall is failing to optimize your website for mobile devices (and trust us, it happens way more than you'd think). With over 60% of internet traffic coming from mobile devices, a clunky, unresponsive site can seriously cost you valuable visitors.
Additionally, avoid overlooking SEO basics like meta descriptions and keyword placement, as they play a critical role in helping people find you through search engines.
One main mistake many people make is underestimating the effort required. Building and maintaining website traffic takes time, energy, and persistence. For example, SEO is not a one-time task; it’s an ongoing process that involves more than just placing a few keywords on your website. From regular content updates to backlink building and analyzing performance data, driving organic traffic demands consistent effort.
Finally, don’t spread yourself too thin by trying to be on every platform —that will only lead to burnout— instead, focus your efforts where your target audience spends their time.
